Fiction Friday

Like many of you, I love to read. Several books have inspired me to create paper dolls based on them. Many of these dolls are historical, most of the costumes will be semi-realistic (I have to take some artistic license!), and I will try to remember to post images of my inspiration (I often use paintings or fashion plates to get an idea of the style).

Featured Doll:

from the novel "Jane Eyre"
by Emily Bronte

Jane is a young orphan who grew up first with her Aunt and nasty cousins, then at the stingy Lowood School. When eighteen she had the chance to change her life and advertised for a position as a governess. She bravely makes her way to Thornfield, where her young charge awaits. Her life and experiences there change her forever.

Finished Dolls:

Mandie Shaw
from the Mandie Series
by Lois Gladys Leppard

Mandie is a curious and adventuresome young girl in this christian series for young adults. The series follows Mandie from an orphaned ten-year old to a polished young sixteen-year old. She is always getting into trouble and finding mysteries to solve. This paper doll series takes up after that time, creating dresses for stories that will occur as Mandie grows into an adult.
Era: 1905-1910

Margaret Hale
from North and South
by Elizabeth Gaskell
Margaret is a honest and forthright young woman in trying circumstances. Her father has left the church, after pastoring for many years, and moved his family from the warm and pleasant southern England to industrial northern England. As she comes to know the harsher environment of Milton she begins to understand and appreciate the hardiness of the people living there.
Era: 1854
