Amelia Goes Beachcombing

Amelia loves walking along the shore looking for little treasures. She has a small collection of perfect shells, sand dollars, and unique looking pieces of small driftwoof.

Today I present a selection of summer clothes to add to Amelia's wardrobe.

Tang and Song Dynasties

As requested, Here is Cleo sporting costumes from ancient China. The gown on the left is from the Tang Dynasty (618-907 A.D.). The left is from the Song Dynasty (960-1279 A.D.). Both gowns are quick sketches based off of pictures. While the technical correctness may not be accurate, drawing them has wet my appetite to learn more about Chinese fashions. There is a certain delicateness and elegance in their robes and sashes. Be on the look out for more Chinese fashions, or dresses inspired by them.

Travelling in 1905

Every girl needs a good travel suit, and this one sure fits the bill! This travel suit, circa 1905, is very closely copied from the one below:

On a different note, I've just finished reading "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte. It was a wonderufl book. Go read it! It has inspired me to do a paper doll of Jane. I've started some preliminary sketches of how I want her to look, and soon I will re-read the book to note down all of the dresses required, and their descriptions. Most of her gowns will be fairly simple (just like Jane herself), but I will have fun re-searching the era. It will be a similar time period to Margaret Hale from "North and South" (who is yet to be posted).

Tamarita

This is a paper doll named Tamarita. She is a young woman who lives on a property of the Lord Karel. Her mother is steward of the land, and Tamarita and her brother Tagel have a good upbringing. Brother and sister enjoy being mischievous, much to their mother’s chagrin. Even as a young lady, Tamarita still rides horseback, goes hunting, and will shirk duties just to be outside. This is the most simple of Tamarita's formal dresses, and consequently her favorite.

Summer Clothing for Amelia

This week Amelia is going camping (as I wish I was!). She has some cute sailor-style shorts, paired with a comfortable cotton t-shirt and a loose un-buttoned dress shirt. Her feet have yet to get shoes, but I'll learn to draw footwear soon! lol. All she needs is the tent, a sleeping bag, and maybe a loyal dog to follow her as she traipses through the woods à la Lewis and Clark.

Cleo

Cleo shall be a model for all things ancient and historic. Her updates will not be as consistent as the rest of the gang; Cleo enjoys being capricious and unpredictable! When she does surprise you with a visit, she'll wear clothing from different ancient civilizations. These will include: China, Greece, Egypt, England, and any others you wish to see! Just let me know if there is a culture in particular you'd like to see clothing from and I'll do my best.

Mandie Shaw

One of my favorite book series growing up was The Mandie Series by Lois Gladys Leppard. They are about a young girl (born around 1889) who loves to solve mysteries. Joined by a few close friends she gets in and out of all sorts of trouble, always accompanied by her white cat, Snowball. To learn more about them, check out the official website: http://www.mandie.com/

I chose to show Mandie as a young woman (circa 1905-1910). I had so much fun searching the internet for fashion plates during my research phase! I'll share some of the inspiration I found, but for now, just enjoy Mandie in her corset, chemise, and drawers. (I based the corset off of this 1910 corset from this lovely website: The Vintage Collection of Lori Knowles)
