Parisan Blouse

Mandie looking very elegant and fashionable in 1909. The blouse is based off of a very similar one from a fashion plate published in Paris in the same year. I designed the skirt myself, using inspiration from the era.

Formal Gown

In Onerym (where Tamarita lives), tunics are all the rage. Here she wears a long sleeved shift with laces threaded from wrist to just below the elbow. Over it is a beautiful full skirted tunic, tied over the shoulders, with a decorative sash criss-crossing from under the bust the the low hip area.

Collared Sundress

This adorable button-up sundress is reminiscent of a small girl's dress with it's collar, puffed sleeves, and pockets.

Edwardian Apron

Sorry for the lack of descriptions in this weeks posts! I've been really busy (and soon to get busier: I'm leaving the country for a few weeks. But updates will continue while I'm gone!).

Here Mandie has a simple apron, possibly made of cotton or muslin. It covers her gown well, the skirt going all the way round to the back. Large pockets are on either side for carrying all manner of equipment.

Adventure Outfit

7/23/10: A belated blurb about this one since I didn't have time to talk about it earlier! This is a very non-traditional outfit for a girl (long skirts are the only choice for a young lady of good, modest upbringing). But we all know Tamarita isn't your average gal. For hunting and trapping she wears peasant clothes, and here she's dressed to be ready for anything. The trousers are castoff's from her brother, tied at the ankles to protect her lowers legs from branches or bugs. A long undershirt is the first layer over her torso, followed by a high-necked, 3/4 sleeve shirt with embroidery on the hem. The tunic, likewise is lined in embroidery and cinched at the waist with a leather belt. A frog hanging over the right hip can hold a dagger, a rope is atached at the left side.

Jane Eyre and Cleo

Jane Eyre is finally close to being finished! Here's a sample of the pencilled doll. She just needs some final touch-ups, inking, and then the costumes. I need to go through the book again and find how many outfits she needs and what type of dresses. I'm looking forward to having Jane completed!

.. And today is double feature day! In adition to a sneak peak, Cleo is also making an appearance:

Here is Cleo dressed as Esther from the 1959 movie of Ben Hur. It's Hollywood's spin on early first century Jewish clothing. If you haven't watched the movie, I highly reccomend it (it's long, but worth it!)

1905 Ballgown

Here is Mandie dressed in a re-imagined ballgown from 1905. I wouldn't so much call it historically accurate as historically inspired.

Nightie-night

A very simple gown, with a sash below the bustline, for sleeping. It has long sleeves and the hemline falls at the ankles.

Modern Day Chiton

Tansy is all ready to go out wearing this lovely grecian-inspired tunic dress. The loose gown is gathered at the natural waistline with a wide belt, letting the un-uniform hemline fall just above the knees. The straps are fastened with knots, the ends draping over the bustline.

This shirtwaist and skirt was shamelessly copied from the fashion plate below, featuring styles from 1909:

Tamarita: Gown and Tunic

Here's Tamarita again. She's wearing a simple cotton gown, belted at the waist. The skirt comes to just above her ankles to make moving about easier. The sleeves are three-quarters length for comfort in the summer heat. A collared tunic acts to protect her clothing.

Mandie in Plaid

I love these skirt and shirtwaist combos, they're so fun to design! This is one of my personal favorites. It's a nice, informal outfit Mandie might wear while spending time with her friends and family.
